Abacus holds its annual Employee Appreciation Week!
To honor the contributions of the entire Abacus team throughout the year, Abacus Logistics holds an annual Employee Appreciation Week filled with activities, food, and prizes!
This year’s event was preceded by the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony to celebrate the completion of our facility expansion. For information on the ribbon cutting, click here.
Abacus provided snacks throughout the week for its ~70 employees, with a big lunch on Friday prepared and served by the leadership team. Human Resource Manager Donna Haynes said “this was my first year helping plan Employee Appreciation Week. I was really impressed by how engaged everyone was throughout the week – we have a great team.”
In addition to the daily prizes and giveaways, one of the team’s favorite events is the Awards Show, where employees are individually recognized for their unique contributions, tenure, and attendance.
Employee Appreciation Week is also a great way to encourage the team to learn more about our clients and their products. Our team-based Trivia Game requires employees to know facts about our clients, including matching a product to its SKU, company history, standards of excellence for proper product handling, and Lean improvement methodology. This year’s teams scored very well, with fierce competition for first!
Safety is paramount at Abacus, so this year Facility Manager and head of the Safety Committee David Prior created a “Safety Haunted House” where participants were asked to identify staged hazards in a controlled environment, in a limited time. “It was fun setting up the haunted house. I took real-world examples of warehouse safety hazards. Helping the team identify these hazards to improve everyone’s safety was fun,” said David Prior.
This year’s event also included a special presentation by Kevin Cagney regarding his recent climb of Mount Everest, and how his time on the mountain provided valuable lessons for success in the workplace.
To close out the week, winners from the Scavenger Hunt won the opportunity to throw water balloons at the leadership team – a great way to end a hot summer day.
